TCNJ Boil Water Advisory

To the Campus Community:

Trenton Water Works has provided the attached notice to the residents of Trenton, Hamilton Township, Lawrence Township, and Ewing Township, which includes TCNJ. As a precaution they have issued a Boil Water Advisory until further notice.

Effective immediately, please bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute and allow the tap water to cool before using for:
-drinking
-preparing foods, washing vegetables and fruit
-cooking
-making ice cubes
-taking medications
-brushing teeth

The following measures are also recommended:

-Discard uncooked food, beverages, or ice cubes made with tap water during the day of the advisory.
-Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking.
-Do not swallow water while showering or bathing.
-Rinse hand-washed dishes with a diluted bleach solution (one tablespoon of household bleach per gallon of tap water) or clean your dishes in a dishwasher using the hot wash cycle and dry cycle.
-Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms.
-Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.
-Provide pets with drinking water that has been boiled (and cooled).
– Do not drink from the water fountains or bottle filling stations.

If you do not have the ability to boil water, please use bottled water.

The College’s dining contractor is implementing all of the recommended measures and is also working to make bottled water available in the dining halls.

The College is in the process of making bottled water available in the residence halls.

This advisory will remain in effect until testing shows the water quality to be safe. Once the College has been informed that the advisory has been lifted, a follow up email will be sent advising the campus.

Thank you for patience and understanding as the campus community continues to respond to today’s water incident.
